Prep Girls Hockey kickoff 2019-20 season with strong start. Down several players due to injury, the Tigers continue to show true grit and determination.
JWHL - Buffalo, NY
A full team effort earned the Tigers a 4-2 win against North American Hockey Academy Junior Women’s Hockey League action last Friday in Buffalo.
Lilli Welcke had two goals while Abygail Grexton and Carina Ouellete also scored. Brooke Loranger made 31 saves in net.
Tigers Lose in U19 Finals at Buffalo Inferno Tournament
Prep Girls Hockey participated in the Buffalo Inferno Tournament where they dropped a 4-1 decision to the Mississauga Hurricanes in the U19 championship final. The final was a back-and-forth battle that saw Mississauga only leading 2-1 until the final minute when they scored two empty net goals. Giles scored for Ridley.
Ridley began the tournament with a 1-1 tie versus Meijer. Luisa Welcke scored for the Tigers.
Following a 5-0 lost to the Mississauga Hurricanes, Ridley topped Walpole Express 4-1. Luisa Welcke (2), Brooklyn Clark (1), Emma Penner (1).
Ridley defeated the Boston Shamrocks 6-1. Lilli Welcke (3), Luisa Welcke (2), Rachel Wing (1) before topping Meijer 2-1 in a shootout as Emma Penner and Lilli Welcke scored. Brooke Loranger made 31 saves in net for the win.
Although the Tigers were down several players, they showed true grit and determination and should be commended on their performance.
Strong Showing at USA-Canada Cup Series Showcase
Prep Girls Hockey was back in action this weekend at the USA-Canada Cup Series in Detroit, MI where they faced off against top U19 programs from across North America.
Injuries and illness shortened the bench, but Tigers battled through and displayed a strong performance in every matchup.
The Tigers lost 3-0 Chicago Mission, defeated Milwaukee Jr. Admirals 4-1, lost 2-1 to Meijer U19, defeated the Niagara Purple Eagles 5-3 and lost 4-2 to Selects Academy.

JWHL - Merrimack, MA
While five members of Prep Girls Hockey participated at 2019 Atlantic Challenge Cup, the rest of the Tigers, competing with a short bench, split a pair of games at Merrimack, defeating Washington Pride 4-0 and losing 4-1 versus Ontario Hockey Academy.
Brooke Loranger earned the shutout while Lilli Welcke collected two goals. Abby Russell and Brooklyn Clark also scored.
Prep Girls Hockey was back in action this weekend facing off against Peterborough Ice Cats in back-to-back exhibition play which saw the Tigers win 5-2 and 4-0.
Girls saw offensive production from a number of different Tigers, including a hat trick by Emma Penner in Game 1, as well as first goals of the season in Game 2 from Abby Russell and Lauren Toner. Brooke Loranger also recorded the shutout in Game 2.
Tiger Cup Challenge
Prep Girls showed well at this past week’s Tiger Challenge Cup. The Tigers finished with a 4-2 record against U19 teams from across Ontario and New Brunswick.
The Tigers defeated the St Catharines Junior Badgers 4-1; topped RNS 2-1 before an energetic crowd on Spirit Night; edged the Niagara Rapids 2-1 and blanked the eventual tournament winner Niagara Purple Eagles 1-0.
The Tigers, who also lost 2-1 to the Toronto Aeros and 1-0 to the Junior Badgers, missed advancing to the finals by an overtime goal.
