As the majority of the school took well deserved mid-tem break, a number of our competitive athletes used the long weekend to make progress on their athletic campaigns.
Grade 11 student Charlotte Drennan ‘20 made the cross-country trip to Burnaby British Columbia to represent Ridley at the 2018 Canadian National Rowing Championships. Not surprising, all the work that Drennan and her teammates put in this fall paid off as she sprinted to two first place finishes in her single racing against the best in the country.
The Prep Boys Basketball team also put their talents on display for the region to see for the first time outside of the Griffith Gym at the Humber Classic in Toronto. The Tigers made it to the championship game with wins over GTA Prep (88-77) and Vaughan Prep (91-75) before falling in the event finals to RISE Prep 88-73. Jaden Bediako ‘19 and Malcolm Bailey ‘19 were an impressive duo all weekend with Malcolm showing off his incredible athleticism at both ends of the floor and Jaden racking up the numbers including a 30-point night in the final.
The Prep Boys Hockey team also kicked off the 2019 Midwest Prep Hockey League season in Burlington, Vermont with three wins and a loss in their four matches. The Tigers dropped the first of the four to rival Gilmour Academy (Ohio) 3-1 before rattling off three victories over St. Francis (Buffalo) 8-0, Lake Forest (Chicago) 1-0 in a shootout and Shadyside Academy (Pittsburgh) 3-1. Both Goaltenders Gleb Poliakov ’19 and Brandon White ’20 were solid between the pipes and Seniors Evan Johnston ’19 and Jacob Lutwyche ’20 lead the point parade as 14 Tigers tallied MPHL points demonstrating the teams balanced attack.
